The Dome of the Rock

The Dome of the Rock is a Muslim shrine built on the Temple Mount, or the Noble Sanctuary, over the sacred stone where the Prophet Muhammed ascended to the Haven from the Earth on a winged horse during his Night Journey. According to the Jewish beliefs, this is the very same rock on which Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son to God and the rock in the center of the Solomon’s Temple. The Dome of the Rock dominates the architecture of Jerusalem. Thus, when you see postcards from Jerusalem most likely you see the golden cupola of the Dome of the Rock.
